Douglas Thompson is Associate Professor of History and Southern Studies at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He has a book out this May titled Richmond’s Priests and Prophets: Race, Religion, and Social Change in the Civil Rights Era (University of Alabama Press). His current book-length project is “A Journey of Conscience: Martin Luther King Jr., the Vietnam War, and the Struggle for the American Soul” is under consideration for publication.
