As an ecosystem that can be seen from space, the Great Barrier Reef is known for its unique beauty and vast size. My aspiration to experience this reef wasn’t only to see a natural wonder of the world, but also a dream spurred by fear that this ecosystem would disappear in my lifetime.
I sometimes dream about what it would look like if we could collectively shift from a scarcity/abundance mindset to one that recognizes enough. I don’t know how we can make that shift as a society, unless it is as a change that starts with individuals and families, slowly building to a critical mass.
Unfortunately, when we are drawn into a discussion that looks at environmentalism on such a large scale, we miss the opportunities to be stewards of creation that are right in front of us on a daily basis.
Once we understand that earthkeeping has more to do with who we are rather than what we do, we are free to develop practices that reveal where our heart is.
