Each of us is being led by someone or something. What—or whom—is leading you?
The Shepherd’s rod and staff – the very tools by which he leads – ensure that the sheep can live fearlessly. The sheep will wander away from green pastures and quiet waters, soon finding itself in the valley of the shadow of death.
Even where evil is present, the pervasive presence of God is more powerful. There is nowhere the sheep can go where the shepherd does not go with them. The shepherd’s presence brings peace in the presence of evil.
Jesus, the good shepherd provides and protects his sheep to the point of laying down his life for all of us and then, because he can, he takes his life up again and continues living.
