Perhaps we’ve lost something with the disappearance of the word behold from our Scripture translations and its corresponding erasure from our culture. Do we really know how to behold? How to stop still, to cease all else, to give our full attention and searching gaze to what is before us?
Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the season of Lent. Let us commit, over the next few weeks up to Easter, to look—to really look—at Jesus, the Messiah, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
I know I have a sinful nature and will continue to keep sinning. This sinful nature makes it difficult for me to continually think about the surmountable gift God has given me, and to bask in God’s glory.
